The shop

What we do

Jack's Custom Restoration is a full autobody shop in Smithers. Restoration is the main work, but the same shop handles rust and collision repair, fabrication, blasting, paint, undercoating, parts and enclosed transport. Teardown to buffed out clear happens under one roof, so nothing gets shipped around town mid job.

“Eli was amazing. We had a challenging request to get our van ready for passengers. Not only did he do it on time, he communicated every aspect of the work to me AND did an amazing job. 100% recommend his services. We asked around at a few other shops and people treated us poorly. Eli was friendly from the get go and was super easy to work with.”

“Eli at JCR did fantastic bodywork and paint on my 78 Ford Bronco, and got it back to me in a very reasonable amount of time. He was very thorough to ensure that I would not have rust issues down the road. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking to get their classic cleaned up!”

“Eli at Jack’s did a great job getting my trailer completely sand blasted, primed, painted and rock guarded. It looks better than brand new. I’m looking forward to it having many more years of life now.”

Questions

Common questions

Do you take rust work that other shops turned down?

Yes, that is most of what we do. Insurance collision shops are set up for bolt on repairs and won't cut and weld rust, so they turn those vehicles away. We cut it out, replace the metal and seal it.

What does it cost?

The shop rate is $150 per hour plus materials, with a two hour minimum. Restorations usually run 800 to 1000 hours, full paint jobs 100 to 160 hours. Every phase is broken out in a written estimate before it starts, so you see the hours and the materials separately.

How long does a restoration take?

Usually months. Metal work, paint prep and parts availability set the timeline, and those are the three things that cause delays. You get a written estimate up front and progress updates through the build.

Do you do small jobs?

Some. There is a two hour minimum and most jobs here start around $5,000, but a rusted rocker, one panel resprayed or undercoating on a truck are all normal work. What we do not do is cheap blow over paint, since the prep underneath is what makes a paint job last.

How do I book the shop?

Estimates and shop visits are by appointment. Once the estimate is approved, the shop books your slot when the deposit is in. We are always open for new intake, so there is no waiting list to get on.

Can you estimate from photos?

Photos get you a range. For a firm number we need the vehicle here, because rust hides behind trim and down inside seams. Send shots of all four corners and close ups of anything you already know about.

Where are you and how far do people travel?

The shop is at 4635 Jackpine Rd in Telkwa, ten minutes from Smithers. Vehicles come in from Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert, Houston, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof and Prince George. Long distance projects are pretty normal for us.
